v.a. - "[Deep] Into The Abyss"

First off, just wanted to let you all know that I'm not dead and I haven't quite fallen off of (or into) the face of the Earth yet. By now, it's obvious that Subterrestrial is on some sort of hiatus that may continue for some time, so please bear with me.

It is however time to say goodbye to a dear friend, beloved Chase Records Netlabel. Here is a message and parting gift from label head Remi.

"After 9 years of dedication to free underground electronic music, I've reached to the decision that the time has come for Chase Records Netlabel to plunge into the depths of the Internet ocean, probably forever.

Yes, dear friends and listeners, you've guessed it, this means Chase Records will stops its activities with that 60th and LAST release.

But in any mean I could stop the label without putting all my efforts in trying to offer a last groundbreaking release. So, for this last session I've contacted various artists I love, from all around the world, to ask them to create / send a track they feel to be related with the theme of the abyss. I give them a white card to submit what could be their ideal soundtrack for a diving to the darkest depths of the ocean.
"

I had the pleasure of having Remi ask me to contribute a Subterrestrial track to this monumental release. Included is a dark ambient drum & bass number called "Dockside Scuffle", which appeared previously on Subterrestrial's soundcloud. The track needed some mix work, so I brought the drums much more forward. If you've heard it before, please check out this new mix, along with all the other great material on this compilation. Thanks to Remi for his years of service to creative commons music!

v.a. - "Gimme A Minute"

One of Sirona-Records more ambitious projects, "Gimme A Minute" features 108 artists contributing tracks from 55 to 65 seconds in length in styles varying as widely as ambient and electronica to black metal and grindcore to pop and classical. Label head Arnaud Barbe addresses the sentiment behind the compilation: "Sirona-Records is now two years old and this is an anniversary compilation. More than 220 artists have contributed to 3.5 million downloads from what is, before all else, a virtual and human adventure. I am truly proud of all that we have accomplished in two years. Looking back at the beginning, I feel that we have never been so strong and free as we are now. I've only one dream: to continue this adventure as long as I can, and I hope that you will always be with me. Merci mes amis."

"Pyromania" video featuring music by Subterrestrial

New music coming soon, I promise! No doubt, you're growing weary of me posting videos made by others featuring my music. This is a short video about pyromania made by youtube user DaGrblz for a psych class. The track "Dream City of R'lyeh" comes from Subterrestrial's Dead But Dreaming album and fits impressively well (if I do say so myself) with the video.

SUB023 Subterrestrial - "Transmissions from the Hollow Earth 2"

After being "accidentally leaked" almost a week early Subterrestrial presents the official release of "Transmissions from the Hollow Earth 2", the follow up to the original Transmissions from the Hollow Earth. Composed and performed entirely in Berna, a software simulation of a late 1950s electroacoustic music studio, "Transmissions from the Hollow Earth 2" takes a more complex approach with more of a focus on loop manipulation. However, like the original TftHE2 evokes dark musique concrete dronescapes utilizing only the simplest of parameters.

v.a. - "Lost In The Woods"

To quote directly from the release notes....

"Here we are! For its 7th anniversary and 50th release in the main catalogue, Chase Records Net Label is proud to release this gathering of 30 electronic beasts covering all the musical genres we dig and already released during the past seven years, from deepest melancholic Ambient to the sickest obsessive Noise, including Breakcore, Industrial Hardcore, IDM, Techno, Dark Ambient and so on… The tracklist selection of “Lost In The Woods” was divided into 3 virtual CDs and was built with the idea of creating the soundtrack to illustrate a walk in a dark and deep forest, starting by following this apparently unexplored path you’ve never noticed before and progressively moving forward, through the dense vegetation, surrounded by a thick fog, towards the dark and unknown heart of the woods, slowly reducing your chance to find your way back safe…"

2012 Summer of Chill

Summer brings warm weather and when the heat is on, people get testy. There's also a lot of strife in the world right now. Due to the aforementioned factors, I hereby declare this summer 2012 to be the Summer of Chill. Be expecting some chilled downtempo vibes from Subterrestrial this summer, though we will be starting things off on a more ambient note. Next week we will kick off the Summer of Chill with "Night Music", some night-inspired longform ambient to keep your nights cool and relaxed.

I realize of course that it's only really summer here in the northern hemisphere but hopefully our friends in the southern hemisphere can enjoy the music and feel a summer-like vibe from it.

Let's all simmer down and enjoy summer!

Sadayatana 072: Monstrous Fancies

Here's a little hint; I usually have a set release date in mind but I sometimes upload things a few days early if I know I'm going to be pressed for time. So you may get a little pre-release bonus if you watch RSS feeds, etc....

v.a. - "Sincerity Is The Key"

No other title could be better suited to a compilation which celebrates a netlabel who has done so much for underground music and creative commons media in such a short period of time. In the words of our esteemed label owner:

"This compilation is an anniversary release to celebrate the one millionth download on Sirona-Records!
The only words I can say are: Thank you for everything! When I started Sirona, I never expected so much love
and dedication from all the people who contributed to it. We have already made something of which we can be proud, but,
please remember: The adventure continues..." -Arnaud Barbe

Tipping the scales at nine hours and 118 artists, this is indeed a celebration. Spanning seven virtual discs, "Sincerity Is The Key" tips the scales at just under 1GB of music, covering everything from dance and electronica to punk and metal to ambient and noise. It's unlikely that you'll run out of things to listen to with this great, free collection on your hard drive or portable listening device. Did I also mention that this compilation features an exclusive track by Subterrestrial called "Ocean Beach?"
