First off, just wanted to let you all know that I'm not dead and I haven't quite fallen off of (or into) the face of the Earth yet. By now, it's obvious that Subterrestrial is on some sort of hiatus that may continue for some time, so please bear with me.
It is however time to say goodbye to a dear friend, beloved Chase Records Netlabel. Here is a message and parting gift from label head Remi.
"After 9 years of dedication to free underground electronic music, I've
reached to the decision that the time has come for Chase Records
Netlabel to plunge into the depths of the Internet ocean, probably
forever.
Yes, dear friends and listeners, you've guessed
it, this means Chase Records will stops its activities with that 60th
and LAST release.
But in any mean I could stop the label without putting all my efforts in
trying to offer a last groundbreaking release.
So, for this last session I've contacted various artists I love, from
all around the world, to ask them to create / send a track they feel to
be related with the theme of the abyss. I give them a white card to
submit what could be their ideal soundtrack for a diving to the darkest
depths of the ocean."
I had the pleasure of having Remi ask me to contribute a Subterrestrial track to this monumental release. Included is a dark ambient drum & bass number called "Dockside Scuffle", which appeared previously on Subterrestrial's soundcloud. The track needed some mix work, so I brought the drums much more forward. If you've heard it before, please check out this new mix, along with all the other great material on this compilation. Thanks to Remi for his years of service to creative commons music!

v.a. - "Gimme A Minute"
One of Sirona-Records more ambitious projects, "Gimme A Minute" features 108 artists contributing tracks from 55 to 65 seconds in length in styles varying as widely as ambient and electronica to black metal and grindcore to pop and classical. Label head Arnaud Barbe addresses the sentiment behind the compilation: "Sirona-Records is now two years old and this is an anniversary compilation. More than 220 artists have contributed to 3.5 million downloads from what is, before all else, a virtual and human adventure. I am truly proud of all that we have accomplished in two years. Looking back at the beginning, I feel that we have never been so strong and free as we are now. I've only one dream: to continue this adventure as long as I can, and I hope that you will always be with me. Merci mes amis."

v.a. - "Lost In The Woods"
"Here we are! For its 7th anniversary and 50th release in the main catalogue, Chase Records Net Label is proud to release this gathering of 30 electronic beasts covering all the musical genres we dig and already released during the past seven years, from deepest melancholic Ambient to the sickest obsessive Noise, including Breakcore, Industrial Hardcore, IDM, Techno, Dark Ambient and so on… The tracklist selection of “Lost In The Woods” was divided into 3 virtual CDs and was built with the idea of creating the soundtrack to illustrate a walk in a dark and deep forest, starting by following this apparently unexplored path you’ve never noticed before and progressively moving forward, through the dense vegetation, surrounded by a thick fog, towards the dark and unknown heart of the woods, slowly reducing your chance to find your way back safe…"
Subterrestrial's previously unreleased dark ambient/drone track "Sinking Perception" is included in this collection. Please download the compilation and help celebrate this great net label!

SIGNALVOID
The UK-based SIGNALVOID project is a noise music compilation. Participants can submit up to three noise tracks, each of exactly a minute in length, with no silence or fades at either the beginning or end of each piece. The comp will be designed to be played on shuffle. They are looking for new and original material in 16-bit WAV format. Track filenames should be formatted as follows: [artistname] - [trackname].wav.
They want photos for use on the SIGNALVOID Tumblr and potentially in the physical package. Photos should be hi-res and should reflect the theme of "noise". Subterrestrial's "Cactus Garden" digital manipulation piece was featured on this blog (see thumbnail above).

v.a. - "Sincerity Is The Key"
No other title could be better suited to a compilation which celebrates a netlabel who has done so much for underground music and creative commons media in such a short period of time. In the words of our esteemed label owner:"This compilation is an anniversary release to celebrate the one millionth download on Sirona-Records!
The only words I can say are: Thank you for everything! When I started Sirona, I never expected so much love
and dedication from all the people who contributed to it. We have already made something of which we can be proud, but,
please remember: The adventure continues..." -Arnaud Barbe
Tipping the scales at nine hours and 118 artists, this is indeed a celebration. Spanning seven virtual discs, "Sincerity Is The Key" tips the scales at just under 1GB of music, covering everything from dance and electronica to punk and metal to ambient and noise. It's unlikely that you'll run out of things to listen to with this great, free collection on your hard drive or portable listening device. Did I also mention that this compilation features an exclusive track by Subterrestrial called "Ocean Beach?"

v.a. - "Sounds Behind the Corner Vol. 2"

Sounds Behind the Corner is a prolific Italian-language webzine which covers a broad spectrum of dark underground music and Subterrestrial was very proud to be asked to contribute an exclusive track to their second free sampler. Please give this sampler a listen and help support the artists and Sounds Behind the Corner! Below are the release notes for this collection:
"Valerio Orlandini (here as Symbiosis) was several times in our writings, with his ascetic, dilated and rarefied sound: we present him here with a typical passage, he's an artist we want, also in the future, as a witness of a no-space, no-body sound.
http://www.symbiosis.tk/
Ira K-Organisation has the task of defending harsh industrial, he completes this mission with an obscure sense of pathological sound, phobic but dancey.
http://www.myspace.com/irakorg
Adam Castillo lives in French Polynesia, one more reason why we have elected him as an appendix of our dreams! He's a great composer, that blends, as in an elegant long-drink, local ethnic flavors with world trance.
http://www.adam-castillo.com/
Meeting Art Of Empathy means to be captured by dark-folk, born between chanson-noir and languid melancholy: Rome or Death In June of “Accidental Protegé” live today in him, with the great cinematic meaning of his sound.
http://www.artofempathy.be/
Emelyan XIII; It was immediate love for the romanticism of this Eastern boy: romantic is his land, full of literary links took by improbable or impossible love, and ideological death. His full-length conquers us between a smile and a tear, a drop of red blood in b/w background.
http://www.myspace.com/emelyanxiii
Gary lives in the Bay, and there's only one bay in the world, all the other ones are derived: it's California Bay, where dreams of freedom was born in S. Francisco, then there are the Concorde with which you can fly to slavery or liberty, Berkeley and ancients forests. Contradictions of a Nation, that Subterrestrial translates in music with phobic or ethereal, glacial or introspective albums: here it's a perfect and algid interlude, aesthetic without reverberations, linear as lot of his music.
http://subterrestrial.blogspot.com/
Russia again: a land rich in underrated talents, because of the limited opportunities. We're not the mainstream, who seeks for profits in return, although we're asking for approvation, and Veell deserves to be hold in due consideration: his kind of IDM is linear, composed of regular geometries, sometimes cosmic sometimes watery. Listen to him and allow a chance to a great talent.
http://www.veell.net/
White Label Music gives us this track of the new English talented duo we loved immediately, maybe we're the first in Italy who have had the honour to talk about The Horn The Hunt. Music and theater, pop and wave, ethereal and fine brit rock are also in the track donated by the label.
http://thehornthehunt.com/
French, and as in most of french combos there are a beautiful girl and a good musician; we hope that this rule remains, over time, and that it goes on to donate us an high-level eletroclash, like Shygirl's music.
http://www.myspace.com/shygirlmusique
Sagnik And Krishnaroop lead us in India, with their world-trance, which sinks the keyboards in the tradition and the tablas in the future, reversing any order, creating the new course of a nation that looks at the future, strong for cultural and mystical power of thousands of years.
http://www.facebook.com/sagnik24
Namastè to all of you who have listened to Behind The Corner Sounds Vol.2. As with Vol 1, thanks to Jamendo, always a source of scouting, the opportunity to get in rope and watch the ocean of sound art, capturing the nuances, the small ripples, and proposing the best. We thank all the labels that help us to grow, the artists who rely on us with confidence even in their first page, to which we respond with love for the music of a small site, but big in intent. The editors (Nicola, Phaeton, Valentina), thanks all those who in the future will want to subscribe to our newsletter to stay informed:

We are committed as ever to introduce the big names of the dark world, and the small certainties that come every week."
